This morning I awoke to the first snow of the winter. I couldn't believe it! It definately has been cooling off (translation: my finger and nose are always freezing) but I didn't expect snow so early. I even had to clean off the car before I went to work. I love the snow, don't get me wrong, but I would rather be at home, under a blanket, with a cup of hot chocolate, a good movie, and my sweet hubby.
On Friday Nathanael and I are going to a play with his brother Sam and his wife Lisa. I guess the play is "Hello Dolly" and the main reason we are going is because Nathanael's nephew Craig is in the play. I am excited to go, mainly because we are having dinner with Sam and Lisa first and it will be nice to go out with another couple. I do hope it's warmer though!
Both Nathanael and I have Saturday off so we are trying to figure out what to do together. He wants to have a date day and do something fun. I thought about going for a drive in the canyons and having a picnic, but if the weather is going to be anything like it is today there is no way I'm having a picnic. So we might go the the aquarium in Salt Lake. I am excited to go to the aquarium but it's not like the aquarium I used to go to as a little kid in British Columbia. The aquarium in B.C. had whales and dolphins and I really loved it. This one doesn't have whales or dolphins but it still should be great.
I am very excited that I have finally started a family blog. I have been meaning to do it for a long time now and just never got around to it. I will be updating as much as I can and adding photos too!
As a final note I just wanted to say that I am proud to have been a part of this very historic election. Yesterday Nathanael and I went to the historic courthouse (our designated polling station) and cast our votes for Obama. We had talked a lot about this election and our options. We both decided that even though Obama is pro-choice and for same-sex marriages we still wanted to vote for him. I believe in him and his ideas. We talked about our religion and morals but we decided that as a group that has faced descrimination and hated why should we turn those same sentiments towards another group of people no matter who they are or what they believe. I have the freedom to choose who I love and who I marry, why shouldn't everyone have that same freedom. We were so excited this morning when we found out that Obama really had won the election. It really is a time for change and this shows that America has come a very long way in history. We are so proud of our country.
More exciting news: gas is $2.45 / gallon!

Ashlee,
I am so excited to see you have started a blog! Aren’t they great ways to keep in touch with family and friends? I am so glad to hear that you and Nathanael are doing great, we were just in Provo a few days ago, I didn’t know you lived there otherwise I would have given you a call. Hope you are doing great!
I am a little concerned about your reasoning for voting for Obama. Are you aware that the church has strongly encouraged political action against gay marriage by members in California, by supporting the bill called Proposition 8? It is a bill that amends the constitution of California by making marriage specifically between man and woman.
The Family Proclamation says, “We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.” This sounds like we’re supposed to be politically active against threats to the family, including gay marriage and abortion. To consider opposition to making these things legal as “discrimination” or “hatred” is to accuse the leading brethren of the Church, including the Prophet, of the same. The Church doesn’t tell us specifically how to vote, but with their support of Proposition 8 and the quote above from the Family Proclamation, they actually kind of did.
I think we should remember that it wasn’t the government who gave us the institution of marriage – it was God (Gen. 2:21-25, Moses 3:21-25); so only God has the right to modify it. And until he does it is our duty, according to the Family Proclamation, to uphold its integrity.
As for abortion, I cannot escape the conclusion that when we cast our vote for a politician that openly supports abortion, some of that children’s blood is on our hands. IHow could it be otherwise? I understand that each person has their own agency to do as they please whether it be legal or not but how can we as members of the church and with morals support someone(a politician) who openly supports abortion?
