Last night we went over to the McCoard's house for Family Home Evening. They invited us on Sunday and told us they were also inviting a few other young couples. Nathanael and I were the first ones there and we just talked for a few minutes. the McCoards are an older couple in our ward at church. They have three daughters but they have all moved out of the house so the McCoards (Melanie and Stoney) wanted to "steal" some other kids for FHE.
It turned out that they also invited four other couples and we played a getting to know you game. Melanie had this little book full of questions and we went around the dircle answering different ones. We played that for about an hour and then had dessert. She made this really yummy cranberry orange crumble-thing, it was very good. We all talked for another hour or so and then we went home.
It was so much fun and it was nice to get to know some other young couples. It was funny because other than the McCoards (who have been married for 33 years) Nathanael and I had been married the longest at 1 1/2 years! One of the couples (who turned out to be our neighbors) have only been married for a month. They got home the same time we did and we told them we would like to invite them over for dinner one night, they said they would love to and we just have to plan a date. So I'm excited about that.
The biggest reason I love the McCoards is because they remind me of my parents. Melanie is talkative and animated and very friendly. She's huggy and even the way she tells stories reminds me of my mom. Stoney is more quiet and you can tell he's a thinker. He let's Melanie tell the stories and he just smiles and laughs and his humor reminds me of my dad. I was so happy when they invited us over. Melanie always tells me she adores me and she tells Nathanael and she loves me. And last night when we were leaving stoney told us to come over again and that I'm one of his favorite ladies. I love that there is a couple close by that reminds me of my parents because I miss them a lot!
